Population Foundation of India
The Population Foundation of India (PFI) is a national non-governmental organization (NGO), which promotes and advocates for the effective formulation and implementation of gender-sensitive population, health and development strategies and policies. PFI addresses population issues within the larger discourse of empowering women and men, so that they are able to take informed decisions related to their fertility, health and well-being. Advocacy and behaviour change communication have been a central feature of PFI’s efforts to promote gender equality, the empowerment of women and improved health-seeking behaviours within families, communities and the health system. PFI works in collaboration with the national and state governments and diverse civil society organisations to advance reproductive rights. PFI has a proven track record of implementing advocacy initiatives with multiple partners, in multiple locations and with multiple objectives. PFI’s strategy is to use rigorous evaluations to design evidence-informed policy advocacy interventions. PFI has expressed interest in building up their M&E capacity to be able to establish rigorous results.

Community of practice: The PFI executive director attended a workshop, `Improving Adolescent Lives in South Asia – a learning lab perspective,’ organised by 3ie and UNICEF at the November 2015 Evaluation Conclave in Nepal.
3ie services: 3ie is providing technical guidance for a planned impact evaluation of PFI’s entertainment education initiative, Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon.
Community of practice: The PFI executive director was a panelist in 3ie’s seminar on “Delivering effective development: the value of synthesised evidence” in January 2015. The seminar took place during India Evaluation Week, organised by NITI Aayog,, Institute of Applied Manpower Research, 3ie, UN Women, Oxfam and other organisations involved with evaluations in India.
3ie Governance: Poonam Muttreja, PFI’s executive director, is representing the NGO constituency on the organising committeeplanning the 2017 members conference.
She will be attending the 3ie Members Conference in Washington DC on April 25, 2017 and be on the panel on "Improving usability- what have we learned that can guide decisions about commissioning or conducting future impact evaluations?"
I have been the point person for PFI’s partnership with 3ie. I have engaged with the technical experts from 3ie for planning of the impact evaluation of Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon. The inputs and advice provided by 3ie on research methodology, sampling, validity and analysis has been very useful for us. The professional feedback provided by 3ie team has strengthened the research design and analysis of the evaluation. I have found the partnership with 3ie very enriching and beneficial.
