3ie-supported study wins the Best of UNICEF research award 2019
A 3ie-supported impact evaluation on the effects of humanitarian assistance provided to internally displaced people in the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of three studies that has been awarded the Best of UNICEF Research 2019. The evaluation shows that provision of essential household items via vouchers causes substantial improvement in adult mental health and well-being.
The award review panel commended the research team for its commitment to quality and the creative solutions it adopted to overcome implementation obstacles in a complex humanitarian setting. The panel also found this study to fill an important gap by providing rigorous evidence using a counterfactual on the impacts of vouchers in a humanitarian context. This evaluation was co-supported by the DRC Humanitarian Pooled Fund, UNOCHA and UNICEF DRC.
This is one of seven completed impact evaluations under our humanitarian assistance programme, which aims to provide rigorous evidence to improve the quality of life of people living in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. The evaluations examine questions related to malnutrition, food security, resilience and multi-sectoral humanitarian programming in Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Niger, Pakistan, Sudan and Uganda.
