Eric Djimeu

Eric serves as the Evaluation Officer for the Support to Large-scale Combination Prevention Evaluation Studies project and as such is responsible for quality assurance services related to the proposals and studies, funded under this project, to evaluate combination prevention approaches to HIV/AIDS. In this role he coordinates the work of expert advisors and liaises with the funders and the research teams. Eric also assists the 3ie evaluation office in providing quality assurance for impact evaluations funded under our Open Window and Thematic Window grant programs.

She helped coordinate systematic reviews commissioned by 3ie and other donors, provided quality assurance on impact evaluations and systematic reviews, and contributed to in-house systematic review research and methods development.

On 25 September 2015, 193 UN member states signed off on a new direction for achieving sustainable development by 2030. First among the 17 new sustainable development goals is the aim to end poverty in all its forms,and everywhere by 2030. This might seem like a tall order. As a first and important step, countries need to take stock of effective solutions that have worked and identify areas where more work is required.

Making WASH behaviour stick

Small scale trials have repeatedly demonstrated the health benefits of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes. But the benefits disappear when many of these programmes are taken to scale. Large scale handwashing, sanitation and water treatment campaigns in India, Bangladesh, Peru and Vietnam have not led to a change in the behaviour of most of the people they target. So, the health impacts of these programmes are insignificant.

But since we have fallen far short on some targets, such as access to improved sanitation, we need to dig deeper and ask which policies have been successful in helping achieve the targets.
