Thalia Sparling

Research Fellow, Innovative Methods and Metrics for Agriculture and Nutrition Actions
Thalia completed her PhD at the University of Heidelberg’s Institute of Public Health in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics unit. Under the supervision of Dr. Sabine Gabrysch, Thalia worked on the Food and Agricultural Approaches to Reducing Malnutrition (FAARM), a clustered randomized field trial investigating the impact of Helen Keller International’s Homestead Food Production program in rural Bangladesh. Her dissertation examined the association of food access, diet and nutrition with depression in women of reproductive age, particularly in Bangladesh. Prior to joining the Heidelberg Public Health team, she worked for two years in South Sudan as a Technical Advisor to the South Sudan Guinea Worm Eradication Program with the Carter Center. Thalia holds a Master in Public Health from Columbia University, focusing on forced migration and humanitarian assistance, and a Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in anthropology and Spanish.

Veronika Tree

Former Research Associate, 3ie
Veronika contributed to the production of systematic reviews and evidence gap maps of evidence on the effectiveness of social and economic interventions in low- and middle-income countries. She also supported in developing and carrying out a systematic search of the literature; screening titles and abstracts; critical appraisal; extracting data from the included studies; and synthesizing evidence.

Promise Nduku

Researcher, ACE
Promise Nduku is a researcher at ACE with a MA in development economics from the University of Johannesburg. His skills include econometric modelling, statistical analysis, and team management. At ACE, Promise works with and coordinates a team of junior reviewers on multiple evidence syntheses.

Call for expressions of interest: Russian information operations in the Baltics

On behalf of the FCDO Research Commissioning Centre, 3ie invites expressions of interest from organisations or consortia to conduct a systematic review of the effects of policies tackling Russian information campaigns and an evaluation of the ban on Russian propaganda channels in the three Baltic countries. 2018 in review

2018 was a memorable year for 3ie. Our 10th anniversary gave us an opportunity to celebrate our successes, reflect on the lessons learned, and appreciate our members, partners, staff and supporters.

Deeksha Ahuja

Evidence Impact Specialist
Deeksha supports the team in monitoring of 3ie-funded grants and in-house studies for policy-relevance, stakeholder engagement and evidence uptake. She contributes to the production of reports, briefs and other communication products.

Testing new interventions for women’s collective enterprise projects

3ie’s Swashakt program is funding nine projects to enhance viability, scalability and returns of collective enterprises and generate evidence to promote women’s economic empowerment. The two projects (below) span agro-processing and non-farm sectors.
