The role of cost-effectiveness analysis in health policy decision making

Abstract
Despite the large production of cost-effectiveness data for development programmes in India, little is known about their actual use. Cost-effectiveness analysis can play a big role in India’s health policy decision-making by providing evidence needed to inform efficient allocation of scarce healthcare resources. In this seminar, Denny John presented a case study on the use of economic evidence in systematic reviews and results from a recently published study on ‘cost effectiveness analysis of decentralised care model for multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis in India’.
About the speaker
In addition to his position at Campbell, Denny John has worked with development organisations, academic institutions and consulting companies in conducting economic evaluations, systematic reviews, and epidemiological forecasting studies. Denny holds an MPH from the University of Auckland, and an MBA in Healthcare Management from Indian Institute of Health Management Research. Denny is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Health, UK. He is also a member of the Governing Council of the Indian Health Economics and Policy Association.
