Catlan Reardon is an economist in the Development Impact Group at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley (2022) and was previously a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Development Innovation Lab at the University of Chicago and at the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) at Stanford University. Broadly, her research examines how communities manage violence, climate shocks, and development challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on Nigeria. More specifically, her work in Nigeria investigates how cross-group relationships among local leaders can facilitate credible bargaining and more effective dispute resolution.
Catlan has conducted field research in Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, India, and Guatemala and uses experimental, quasi-experimental, and qualitative methods in her research.
