Strengthening Cote d'Ivoire's nutrition strategy with rapid evidence

Côte d'Ivoire faces substantial nutritional challenges, with 17 percent of children under five experiencing stunting and over six percent exhibiting wasting in 2021. Overall, 18 percent of the population grapples with the imminent threat of acute food insecurity. In addition, many communities lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation, which can transmit diseases such as cholera, dysentery and polio. Recurrent infections can also be a major cause of malnutrition and child stunting. 3ie’s WACIE Helpdesk supported the government’s response to the crisis by providing up-to-date evidence to inform and improve its strategy.

Adolescents not a monolith, empowerment interventions need to have life-cycle approach

Over the last few months, 3ie has been working with Co-Impact to create a researcher-practitioner partnership to inform a holistic, evidence-informed approach to adolescent empowerment in India. A few weeks ago, we held a workshop to bring together stakeholders from the government, academia, research and grassroots organizations and donors to collaboratively inform a long-term research agenda. This blog includes a few reflections from those conversations.

Why you should explore (and use) 3ie’s maps on WASH, resilience, nutrition and agriculture

Almost a year ago, we announced in this blog 3ie's collaboration with USAID’s Bureau of Resilience and Food Security (RFS) to map the existing evidence and gaps in four technical areas: agriculture-led growth, resilience, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and water security, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). While these maps are intended to help guide RFS’ programmatic and strategic investments, they have much broader applications for the international development community as they reveal key insights into priority evidence gaps.

Mapping evidence to strengthen impact on resilience and food security

As per current estimates, almost 765 million people are affected by food insecurity worldwide. Chronic vulnerability, hunger, and water insecurity have been compounded by climate change, humanitarian crises, and COVID-induced shocks and pressures. USAID, through the Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (RFS), works through dedicated centers to improve program impacts on these critical issues and accelerate the progress on building resilient communities and countries.
