Evaluation Specialist

Mai Mahmoud

Mai Mahmoud is an Evaluation Specialist at the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), where she works as part of the  Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team. In this role, she contributes to the design and implementation of rigorous impact evaluations and evidence synthesis work across the region.

Before joining 3ie, Mai was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at J-PAL MENA office, based at the American University in Cairo. She holds a PhD in Economics and Public Policy from Tufts University and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Mai's research centers on development, agricultural, and environmental economics. She has experience designing and conducting randomized controlled trials in the Middle East and South Asia. Her recent work has examined how pricing and free-distribution mechanisms affect farmers' adoption of new agricultural technologies, and how machine-learning methods can improve the targeting of in-kind food aid programs.
