Community-based rehabilitation for people with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries
3ie Systematic review 18, 2015
This systematic review examines the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) for people living with physical and mental disabilities in low- and middle-income countries, and/or for their families, carers and community. The evidence on the effectiveness of CBR suggests that it can be effective in improving the lives of people living with disabilities and their carers. However, the heterogeneity of the interventions and scarcity of good evidence means that the findings should be interpreted with caution. Overall, there were few studies, and the quality of those studies was mixed. More studies are needed on the effectiveness of CBR. The new studies should be designed to target the specific gaps highlighted in the existing studies.
