This paper synthesises the evidence on the impact of transfer modalities and large-scale, government-implemented social protection programmes. In summarising findings from the evaluations and synthesising lessons around issues of evaluation and programme fidelity, this paper fills some important knowledge gaps in the literature on social protection, especially around large-scale government programmes.
