3ie’s evaluation office, based in New Delhi, is responsible for developing new grant programs for impact evaluations, reviewing and quality assuring 3ie-funded impact evaluations and conducting in-house evaluations. Currently, the office supports projects and programs across various thematic areas, including aquaculture, agricultural innovation, sanitation, immunization and livelihoods, among others.
About the project:
As part of 3ie’s Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio in India, we are conducting a three-year study that would focus on women’s uptake of digital platforms, a theme of great relevance in the Indian context and policy priorities. Our objective is to document gender gaps in access and usage, analyze design processes, study user journeys, and identify enablers and barriers to women’s engagement with these platforms.
The study proposes to review and conduct an in-depth analysis of the UPI infrastructure for gender intentionality. The project aims to document the design processes and study user journeys and learning by interacting with various stakeholders, such as government officials, primary beneficiaries, i.e., the women, as well as other key stakeholders in the digital space. The primary responsibility of the qualitative researcher will be to transcribe the interviews and focus group discussions conducted as part of the fieldwork in Telangana.
2. Key responsibilities
The qualitative researcher will report directly to the senior evaluation specialist/ senior research associate and will be responsible for transcribing audio recordings of in-depth interviews (IDI), key informant interviews (KII) and focus group discussions (FGD) conducted in Telugu to English. The transcripts should be verbatim, and 3ie may ask for a summarization of the interviews or FGD, if required. The researcher may be required to transcribe a maximum of 80 interviews and FGDs, though the actual number may vary depending on the extent to which the field work has been completed.
3. Qualifications and key competencies
Education: Post-graduate or graduate degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration or related field with an emphasis on qualitative methods. The candidate should demonstrate:
- A minimum of 2 years of prior qualitative research experience
- Proficiency in English and ability to work and write in Telugu.
- Excellent skills in communication, time management, teamwork and relationship management.
- Knowledge and experience of qualitative analysis software like NVivo or Atlas.ti is desirable; and
- Interpersonal and multicultural sensitivity.

5. Terms of employment
The candidate should be available to start work at the earliest. 3ie offers competitive remuneration based on experience and qualifications. The candidate will be paid per completed transcription at a rate of INR 1500 per transcript.
