Who are our senior research fellows?
Anjini Kochar is a 3ie senior research fellow. She served as Director of the India Program at the Stanford Center on Global Poverty and Development from 2000 to 2019. Prior to joining the Stanford Center on Global Poverty and Development, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Stanford University. Read more
Michael Bamberger is a 3ie senior research fellow. Since retiring from the World Bank in 2000 he has been an independent development evaluation consultant. He has consulted with 10 UN agencies, multilateral and bilateral development agencies, development banks, foundations, NGOs, and governments on the evaluation of development policies and programs. Michael has spent more than 40 years evaluating development programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America, including 25 years as a senior sociologist with the World Bank.
David D Ferguson
David Ferguson is a 3ie senior research fellow and runs a boutique consultancy that operates at the intersection of international development, creating evidence of what works, and building partnerships to support innovative, collaborative programs to solve complex challenges. Read more
DLiz Brown is a senior research fellow at 3ie and currently a staff scientist at Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA) at UC Berkeley where she leads the Cost Transparency Initiative to improve and scale the use of high-quality cost evidence in impact evaluation research.
Emmanuel (Manny) Jimenez is an economist who is currently a non-resident senior research fellow at 3ie. Most recently, after five years Manny stepped down as 3ie’s executive director in January 2020. Read more
John Cropper is a 3ie senior fellow with 25 years of expertise in NGO program and project management. His work focuses on helping NGOs to improve the ways they design, plan, manage and deliver programs and projects. Read more
John Eyers is a 3ie senior research fellow with 40 years of expertise in information access and retrieval. His work focuses on constructing complex database search strategies for systematic reviews, evidence gap maps and rapid evidence appraisals, and reviewing search methods for the Campbell Collaboration. He has also run search methods workshops in various parts of the world including Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Mali as well as in various European countries. Josh Furgeson is a 3ie senior research fellow with more than 15 years of experience in program evaluation and systematic reviews. His work focuses on impact evaluations, qualitative implementation analyses, and systematic reviews. Read more
Maren Duvendack is a 3ie senior research fellow with 15 years of expertise in development economics. Her work focuses on applied micro-econometrics, impact evaluation, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, microfinance as well as replication and reproduction of quantitative analyses. She is particularly interested in the link between microfinance, women’s empowerment and reproductive health. Read more
Sean Grant is a 3ie senior research fellow with nearly a decade of experience in evidence synthesis, research transparency, and intervention science. Dr Grant's work aims to advance the credibility of intervention research and its utility for supporting evidence-based policy and practice. He primarily focuses on interventions for behavioral health, though he is interested in intervention research across the behavioral, social, and health sciences. Read more
Vegard Iversen is a 3ie senior research fellow with more than 25 years of experience teaching and researching development. He is currently a Professor of Development Economics and Head of the Livelihoods and Institutions Department at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), University of Greenwich. He joined NRI from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad where he was a professor (Economics Area).
